Whilst watching a video on Artist Trading Coins on YouTube the lady (Crafty Hodges) happened to mention a fellow YouTuber called Nina Ribena who sets art journalling challenges. Once I had created my ATCs I went ahead and checked out her channel and Facebook Group.
This months challenge is “Retiform” not a technique I was aware of I had a watch of Nina’s video and headed to Pinterest for inspiration.
It seems that there are many different variations of this continuing pattern technique so I headed to the studio to try my own version in my art journal.
I pulled out some ink pads, my distress tool and a stamp set that I’d been wanting to use and got to work. Using scrap paper to create angular shapes on my paper I used the distress tool and ink to smudge ink around the edges of each triangle before using each section to create a different scene.
Bermuda Bay and Highland Heather go so well together, the colours really make a striking combination.
I added the brown in so that the branch would not take away the emphasis on the bird and then used the same brown ink in the top right for a sentiment just for continuity.
I love how this looks in my art journal and think the technique will look great on a card too.
Thanks for watching 🙂
